What was really interesting to me as well as that you can select a 2-month deadline for essay writing help. This is probably something that no student ever does, so it’s unclear why this option was added. Also, there is no difference in price between a 2-week and 2-month deadline for an essay, even though there should be. After all, the deadline you choose has a direct impact on the price of the service.

There are a lot of things that didn’t make sense with the pricing plan, which is why I decided I had to order an essay and check the quality myself. And the paper they wrote for me was exactly what I expected it to be. It looked as if the essay was written by a non-native English speaker and contained a lot of errors.

On the main page, you will find a properly placed Hire a Writer button, price calculator, customer reviews, and guarantees the service provides. You can also spot client feedback from the top reviewer websites, such as Sitejabber, ResellerRatings, and Reviews.io. 

The Essayservice.com reviews on its website are overwhelmingly positive, though we are not  sure how credible they are after dealing with this company ourselves.

Which factors impact the prices?

According to the website, the final cost depends on the assignment type, academic level, urgency, and the number of pages. Unfortunately, there is no way to figure out the price before placing the order. You have to register an account to check out other pricing information. 

By the way, the landing page with account registration states that the prices start at $11 per page. Weird? We think so too. However, it’s not the only inconsistency that made us write a negative Essayservice.com review. 

Did We Get a Good Paper?

As we mentioned, we decided to order a math-related assignment but also wanted to check how skilled the writers were. So, we ordered a college-level 10-page research paper on geodesy which involved some simple calculations.

First, we decided to contact customer service, as we usually do. The reply came pretty fast, considering that we reached the support through live chat. We were directed to the ordering page but had to create an account first. That’s where things got interesting. 

It took us half a day to complete the registration process. We couldn’t verify our email address because the system didn’t send us the necessary email. When the registration finally went through, we found out that no writers were available. So we had to wait. 

The next day, we received an email from customer service saying they had a writer ready to work on our order. We added all the order information, but when the time came to pay, we found out that the price grew from $123 to $150. Why? We don’t know till this day. 

Another thing that added to our suspicions and made us write a bad Essayservice.com review was the lack of feedback from our writer and customer service. Even though we could communicate with the author directly, they never replied to our messages. Customer service went radio silent as well. 

Of course, the cherry on top was the paper itself. Although it came on time (it had a deadline of 5 days), it was heavily plagiarized, and the calculations were incorrect. Interestingly, we also received a plagiarism report saying that it was 100% original. However, Turnitin showed otherwise. 

Did we get a revision?

No. Even though the price already included rewriting services, we never heard back from customer service regarding this matter. 

So, once again, the service that pledges to send plagiarism-free papers scams its clients by sending fake plagiarism reports. Obviously, all Essayservice.com reviews on its website are fake. 

Support System

You can contact customer support at Essayservice.com through a live chat or a support form, which you can find at the bottom of the homepage. We couldn’t find an email or a phone number to reach out to the customer service. 

When we first talked to the support, we were very pleased and even wanted to write a positive Essayservice.com review about it. But after we paid for the paper, their interest in us vanished.

To be fair, it seems like customer service at this company is active only when you are placing your order. Afterwards, don’t expect anyone to contact you or give updates on your order’s status.

I ordered a college research paper on human metabolism and the CAC. What a waste of my money! I received a poor-quality essay that I could’ve done in one hour with the help of Wikipedia. Also, I couldn’t get any refund. I’m never coming back to this website!

The service seemed reliable to me, so I ordered a short, 2-page book review for my literature class. The deadline didn’t matter, so I wasn’t super nervous about it. After placing my order, I realized that there was no way I could keep in touch with customer service. No one gave me updates about my paper. Very unprofessional behavior.

In our case, we chose a writer because they mentioned that nursing was one of their areas of interest, and our requested essay was a nursing essay.

Overall, we rated the ordering process an 8/10 . We’d love to fully explain what goes into their pricing, but unfortunately, they do not have a pricing page or table on their website. 

In fact, the information we found on their website related to pricing changes depending on where you look at . They say their essays begin at $10 per page on their home page. When you are about to register or log in, it is $11, which is the same price you can find in their online calculator for a one-page essay. And in some tabs, you can still see the former price: $8. 

Maybe we have COVID-19 to thank for this three dollar increase. It is a minor difference that may not change the overall cost, but that adds to their lack of transparency. 

Although their prices start at $11 per page, you must consider that Essay Service utilizes a bidding system. This means that different writers will have different prices .

How much did we pay? We ordered a 4-page essay to be completed in 4 days and paid $47.86 . That nearly equals $12 per page.

All in all, Essay Service’s prices are definitely quite low!

What payment options are available?

EssayService allows you to pay via popular credit/debit cards such as the following:

Something you should know is that Essay Service has a unique payment system ! How does it work? You transfer funds into your Essay Service account and release the payment to the writer incrementally as they complete certain checkpoints. 

Basically, you choose when to release the writer’s payment and how much you want to release. This allows you to release the full payment only when you are satisfied with the essay.  

We would rate Essay Service’s cost an 8/10 . Even though they have an affordable price, there is not much explanation of what affects the pricing.

Essay Service: Essay Quality

To begin with, we uploaded two files (essay instructions and guidelines) that extensively explained what sections needed to be included in the essay and the information that must be present within each section.

It was hard to believe, but our assigned professional writer left out four of the required sections . Yes, FOUR!

And in the sections that our writer did include, they didn’t include all the required information. So, my writer did not entirely fulfill the essay’s instructions .

As for the actual essay content, we rated this a 4/10 . This is because there wasn’t a clear focus on including and solely focusing on the required information.

Writer's English Level

Now, you’re probably curious about the writer’s English level. And unfortunately, it was pretty evident that my writer’s English was not at a native level .

In fact, many mistakes demonstrated that the writer had poor English ; we will cover these one by one. 

The first poor aspect of the essay that revealed the writer’s low English level was that many sentences did not make sense . 

Just look at the example below:

Another negative aspect of this essay was tons of grammar mistakes! Below you will find a perfect example.

But these two problems weren’t the only indicators of a poor level of English. Another huge error was that the writer misused certain words.

Another error related to the writer’s poor English level is that there were many typos spread throughout the essay.

Overall, we would give the essay’s clarity a 4/10 . This is because the grammar mistakes and typos made the essay hard to read. But also, multiple sentences were complicated to decipher.

Poor APA Citing Skills

A serious error that isn’t related to the writer’s English is the citing throughout the essay . In the first essay we received, there were only four references in the five pages they had written.  

This is because entire paragraphs did not have a single reference even though the information was undoubtedly taken from an outside source.

When noticing the poor citing, we asked the writer to revise the citing and fix the issues. However, the improper citing was far from being fixed in the essay we got back.

In the revised version, there were still paragraphs without any references . There were additional citing mistakes, such as the writer including the same reference repeatedly instead of once when that source’s information ended. 

Just look at the examples (taken from the revised version) below to get an idea:

We discovered that the writer copied almost word for word a sentence found in a page published by the CDC . However, this page wasn’t cited nor present in the reference page at the end.

The sentence at the top is taken from the essay we received, and the one at the bottom is from the page written by the CDC.

It is evident that the writer tried to change a couple of words from the first sentence. But in the second sentence, the writer almost completely copied it word for word . Shockingly, this page from the CDC wasn’t even cited!

We would rate the APA citing a 4/10 . Apart from having multiple paragraphs with no references, there were many citing mistakes, such as not using ‘et al.’ and repeating a reference.

We rated Essay Service an 8/10 in plagiarism . After receiving the essay, we gave it to our in-house Editor In Chief , who ran it through our own editing software tools and found a 2% score in our plagiarism report. What showed as plagiarized was one sentence. 

However, as we stated above, we found some sentences that were almost word for word from the CDC website with no citations referencing where the information came from.

Overall, we gave the guarantees offered by Essay Service a 7/10 . This is because they include a refund and confidentiality guarantee, but there is no specific mention of a revision guarantee on their website.

Is Essay Service Legit?

Is Essay Service legit? Well, they did deliver our essay to us. So, in terms of delivering an essay, they are a reliable service and will not just run off with your money . 

However, there are certain aspects of Essay Service that are not very legit. 

Many things about their writers’ profiles are fake . To start off, all of the writers’ profile pictures are noticeably fake. 

Just take a look at this writer’s image:

We tried to download some of their writers’ profile pictures and feed them through reverse image search to prove they were fake. However, we discovered that it’s not possible to download any of their profile pictures .

The fact that you cannot download their profile pictures may be intentional so that no one discovers that their images are fake. However, we must say that it is pretty evident that the picture is fake in the example we included.

Another fake aspect about Essay Service is the client reviews on their writers’ profiles. The majority of customer reviews are all five stars and have very generic comments or no comments, indicating that they could be fake.

As mentioned before, when you submit your ordering form, you receive bids and chats in seconds. The writers mention they’ve read the requirements indicating that these messages may be automated .  

We uploaded two files in the ordering form so that they could understand the essay’s requirements. One file was 572 words long, and the other was 695 words long. I think it’s pretty clear that no one can read those documents in seconds !

Overall, we would rate Essay Service’s legitimacy a 5/10 . This is because the writers use fake profile pictures, the writers’ profiles are filled with positive reviews with basic or no comments, and the writers’ messages are most likely automated.

When I ask students who didn’t pass the bar on their first try whether they submitted practice essays for grading during bar prep, usually the answer is “not many” or “no.” When I ask them why they didn’t take advantage of this powerful bar prep tool, many told me they felt they didn’t know the law well enough to write an essay for submission.

Practice essays are a great way to learn how to write better essays AND continue to learn the law. Don’t cheat yourself out of one of your best learning opportunities because you don’t feel ready.

How the World Became Rich by Mark Koyama and Jared Rubin and Slouching Towards Utopia, by J. Bradford DeLong: A Review Essay

This essay provides a review of two important recent books on economic growth: How the World Became Rich by Mark Koyama and Jared Rubin and Slouching Towards Utopia, by J. Bradford DeLong. Each book is noteworthy for its erudition and breadth. I explore strengths and weaknesses of these books and make some proposals on new ways to conceptualize and study long run socioeconomic development. My discussion emphasizes the importance of contingency in determining long run inequalities across countries as well the potential for ideas from complexity theory to augment standard growth modelling.

At the Jerusalem synagogue where Hersh Goldberg-Polin danced in life, grief and anger reign after his death

JERUSALEM — Three hundred and thirty-two days after Hersh Goldberg-Polin danced in the courtyard next to his Jerusalem synagogue on the holiday of Simchat Torah, more than a thousand people gathered there in grief and prayer to mourn his murder by Hamas terrorists in Gaza.

During the Sunday night vigil, the courtyard railings were lined with oversized yellow ribbons to symbolize advocacy for the hostages, Hapoel Jerusalem soccer flags — the 23-year-old’s favorite team — and posters that read, “We love you, stay strong, survive,” a mantra coined by his mother, Rachel Goldberg-Polin.

Just hours earlier, one of the posters had been hanging over the balcony of the home of Shira Ben-Sasson, a leader of Hakhel, the Goldberg-Polins’ egalitarian congregation in the Baka neighborhood of Jerusalem.

“We were sure we would take it down when he came home,” Ben-Sasson said.

The community wanted to unite while respecting the Goldberg-Polins’ desire for privacy, she said, prompting them to organize the prayer gathering.

“But it’s like a Band-Aid or giving first aid, it’s what you do in an emergency. I don’t know how we go on after this,” she said.

She added that the community, which has a large contingent of English-speaking immigrants, was not prepared for the High Holidays, which begin in about a month. She said, “Seeing his empty seat is hard.”

For Ben-Sasson, who wore a T-shirt bearing the Talmudic dictum “There is no greater mitzvah than the redeeming of captives,” the tragedy is especially painful because, she said, it could have been avoided with a ceasefire agreement that freed hostages.

“Hersh was alive 48 hours ago. We think a deal could have saved him. There is no military solution to this,” she said.

That feeling of bereavement, often mixed with betrayal, pervaded gatherings across Israel on Sunday, as the country struggled with the news that six hostages who may have been freed in an agreement were now dead as negotiations continue to stall. Speakers at protests in Tel Aviv blamed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who himself apologized for not getting the hostages out alive but blamed Hamas for obstructing a deal. The country’s labor union, the Histadrut, has called a national strike on Monday to demand a deal.

A rare early September rain lashed parts of Israel on Sunday, leading to a widespread interpretation: God, too, was weeping.

Some at the Jerusalem gathering, including the relative of another former hostage, said Netanyahu had chosen defeating Hamas over freeing the captives.

Josef Avi Yair Engel, whose grandson Ofir, 18, was released from Hamas captivity in November during that month’s ceasefire deal, expressed shock over Hersh’s murder but said he was not surprised, given the wartime policies of Netanyahu’s government.

“We knew months ago this was going to happen. Bibi’s formula, to dismantle Hamas and return the hostages, wasn’t logical. It’s an either/or situation,” Engel said, referring to Netanyahu by his nickname. “He’s tearing the country apart. I’m afraid that in the coming months there won’t be a state at all.”

Engel said he felt a close bond with Hersh’s father Jon Polin, not only because of their joint activism in the hostage families’ tent outside the Prime Minister’s Residence, but also because of their shared identity as Jerusalemites.

“There aren’t many of us in the hostage circle,” he said. “We’re like family.”

Sarah Mann, who did not know the family personally, said the weekend’s tragedy reminded her of Oct. 7.

“This day has sparks of the seventh, which created numbness and an inability to talk. Just complete shock,” she said.

Part of the reason for that, Mann said, was Rachel, who she described as a “force of faith.” Goldberg-Polin’s mother emerged as the most prominent advocate for the hostages globally and became a symbol in her own right as she crisscrossed the world calling for her son’s freedom.

“Millions of people around the world held onto her. Once that was cut, people’s ability to hold onto faith was knocked out today. But even though this has shattered us, we need to keep holding onto God,” Mann said.

For Susi Döring Preston, the day called to mind was not Oct. 7 but Yom Kippur, and its communal solemnity.

She said she usually steers clear of similar war-related events because they are too overwhelming for her.

“Before I avoided stuff like this because I guess I still had hope. But now is the time to just give in to needing to be around people because you can’t hold your own self up any more,” she said, tears rolling down her face. “You need to feel the humanity and hang onto that.”

Like so many others, Döring Preston paid tribute to the Goldberg-Polins’ tireless activism. “They needed everyone else’s strength but we drew so much strength from them and their efforts, “she said. “You felt it could change the outcome. But war is more evil than good. I think that’s the crushing thing. You can do everything right, but the outcome is still devastating.”

Guy Gordon, a member of Hakhel who moved to Israel from Dublin, Ireland, in the mid-1990s, said the efforts towards ensuring Hersh’s safe return have been an anchor for the community during the war. The community knew him as the family described him in its announcement of his funeral on Tuesday, as “a child of light, love and peace” who enjoyed exploring the world and coming home to his family, including his parents and younger sisters, Leebie and Orly.

“It gave us something to hope for, and pray for and to demonstrate for,” he said. “We had no choice but to be unreasonably optimistic. Tragically it transpired that he survived until the very end.”

Gordon, like many others in the crowd, wore a piece of duct tape marked with the number of days since Oct. 7 — a gesture initiated by Goldberg-Polin’s mother. Unlike on previous days, though, his tape also featured a broken red heart beside the number.

Nadia Levene, a family friend, also reflected on the improbability of Hersh’s survival.

“He did exactly what his parents begged him to do. He was strong. He did survive. And look what happened,” Levene said.

She hailed Rachel Goldberg-Polin’s “unwavering strength and belief in God,” adding, “There were times I lost faith. I suppose I was angry with God. But she just kept inspiring us all to pray, pray, pray.”

Jerusalem resident Leah Silver rejected politicizing the hostages’ deaths.

“Everything turns political so quickly. I came here because I felt that before all the protests, we need to just mourn for a moment and to pray. And show respect for each other,” she said. “We’ve become confused about who the enemy is. It’s very sad.”

But not everyone at the gathering joined in to sing Israel’s national anthem at the closing of the prayer gathering.

“I’m sorry, I can’t sing ‘Hatikvah,'” Reza Green, a Baka resident who did not know the Goldberg-Polins personally, said. “I’m too angry. We shouldn’t be here.”
