There are many talented designers on Behance who chose to give away their premium-looking templates for free. Most templates include several layouts you can choose from, so you’ve got plenty of options to go through. Some designers request a link back to their sites or to their Behance profiles, so if you do choose to benefit from their talent and their hard work, don’t forget to credit them accordingly.

5. Graphic Panda

Graphic Panda curates both free and premium PowerPoint templates, Keynote templates, and Google Slides templates. Templates can be used for school, business and even commercial presentations. If you’re logged in to Google Drive, you can preview what the slides look like without downloading the template files to your computer.

7. Slide Model

Slide Model offers membership packages for those who want to get access to their premium templates, however, if you’re not willing to shell out any money for templates, you can check out their free PowerPoint templates. From a personal point of view, I don’t find most free templates from Microsoft visually appealing. But still, many people use these templates, so I thought I had better include this in the list too.

As more and more designers contribute to Microsoft’s free templates, over time, we may see better-looking templates pre-loaded in PowerPoint as well as on the Microsoft website itself.

If you want to use any of Microsoft’s free PowerPoint templates, these are your options:

• Search for online templates by typing in the search bar. Note you need an Internet connection to do this [see (1) in the screenshot below]
• Scroll down through the pre-loaded templates and double-click the template you want to use [see (2) in the screenshot below]

Here’s what it looks like:

If you want to check out the pre-loaded template’s gallery of available layouts and themes, simply click on a template and you’ll see something like this on your screen (I clicked on the Atlas template ):

As you can see on the left side of the screenshot, this is the template’s Title slide layout. On the right, you’ll see the available color themes for this particular template.

Now, Microsoft’s free templates aren’t too bad especially if you’re pressed for time, and you really have no other choice. Just don’t expect to win any design or presentation awards though.

Of course, one of PowerPoint’s best features is its versatility. You can use any of the available templates, and redesign it to make it your own. But obviously, that kind of beats the purpose of using a template, right?

You use a template because you want to save time. You don’t have hours to spend creating a template from scratch, so you use a template with pre-designed layouts and colors, etc. But the pre-loaded ones just don’t cut it nowadays.

Back in the 1990s or early 2000s when PowerPoint was a relatively new software, we were more accepting of cookie-cutter templates. But not anymore. In 2018 and beyond, free templates that look like they were created in 1999 are not going to capture anyone’s attention.

Browse for templates for PowerPoint by most popular, featured, or categories, such as maps ,  organization , and  text slides . If you’d instead use these templates on Google Sheets, there’s a whole section of just those templates. You can also filter the templates by corporate or creative.

These templates for PowerPoint are direct downloads, so you don’t have to unpack an archive to get to them. They’re all stored in the PPTX format.

Templates Wise

Templates Wise has an extensive collection of templates made from photographs, abstract graphics, and clip art. Categories include business, finance, nature, and travel. Besides templates, the site offers free charts, diagrams, icons, and music loops.

Slide Geeks

This website has about 400 free templates which you can download. The great thing about this selection is that most of the presentation designs are unique and professional. There is also an option to upgrade to custom designs.

Another helpful website that offers excellent PowerPoint templates is Slide Team. All you have to do is sign up, and you can download the PowerPoint templates for free.

Slides Carnival

Slides Carnival is a side project of Jimena Catalina, a visual/UI freelance designer from Madrid, Spain. She made the site because, according to her bio, she suffers a lot when she sees poorly designed presentations. Also, she’s publishing these templates so that presenters can focus on creating meaningful content without worrying too much about design.

She has categorized her professional PPT templates (free download) into different categories like formal, inspirational, creative, simple, startup, elegant, business, and playful. She includes about two dozen slides per template as well as free icons.

Designed by freelance graphic designer Kata Ragasits, the free PowerPoint templates on her site showcases her design skills. If you use any of these modern and cool PowerPoint templates in your presentation, no one’s going to think you got it for free!

Each template includes several layouts, and these include title slides, title+content slides, image slides, chart designs, and so much more. She even includes free fonts and a free icon pack for each template.

There are many talented designers on Behance who chose to give away their premium-looking templates for free. Most templates include several layouts you can choose from, so you’ve got plenty of options to go through. Some designers request a link back to their sites or their Behance profiles, so if you choose to benefit from their talent and hard work, don’t forget to credit them accordingly.

Graphic Panda

Graphic Panda curates both free and premium PowerPoint templates, Keynote templates, and  Google Slides templates. You can quickly tell which templates are free as it will say that in the title like you see in the screenshot above. Their free templates include real estate, medical, health, minimalist, business, and many more categories. For premium templates, you’ll be redirected to template marketplaces like GraphicRiver.

While it’s branded as AllPPT.com, the website’s domain name has been updated, as you’ll notice when you visit the site. There are tons of free templates available, and they claim to add new templates every day. As of this writing, they have over 66 pages of templates.

Templates can be used for school, business, and even commercial presentations. If you’re logged in to Google Drive, you can preview what the slides look like without downloading the template files to your computer.

Slide Model

Slide Model offers membership packages for those who want to get access to their premium templates. And however, if you’re not willing to shell out any money for templates, you can check out their free PowerPoint templates. Presentation magazine, behance slide template collection, powerpoint styles, google slides templates, slides carnival, free-ppt-templates.com, slide hunter.

This website offers more than 67,000 creative, free PowerPoint templates. It has more than a dozen categories to browse from such as medical, business, nature, educational, wedding, architectural, Christmas, travel and weather. You can search for them by popularity, color or tag.

The templates are both regular and animated, and are added or updated frequently. They’re also easy to download as you get the file immediately on your computer, plus you get to see a screenshot of what they’ll look like on your slide deck.

There’s no rating system though, and most templates are very basic, but at least you have a wide variety to pick from.

Behance is a showcase site for creatives from all over the world, so you’re bound to find some really professionally designed, extremely artistic and attractive slide templates. The best part is that you can get creative PowerPoint templates, download free of charge, and use with your PowerPoint presentation.

You can use the search filter to find some of the best templates you can use by using variables such as user ratings, most appreciated, or categories like infographic or business presentation and more. A preview of the template’s slide designs is also available so you can see what your deck will look like before you download it.

If you plan to get templates from Behance though, you’ll also need access to Illustrator or Photoshop.

PowerPoint Styles also offers free PowerPoint templates and you can find one that fits your needs by sorting the list according to the most viewed, recently added or top downloaded templates. It also provides categories and tags to help you find general templates, or cartoon, abstract, social, textures, telecommunication and other types of templates.

Each template has a screenshot so you can get a sneak peek of what the actual design looks like, and they’re downloaded as PowerPoint files making it easy to add to your presentation.

9 Professional PowerPoint templates (worth checking out)

A few people asked me where I recommend looking for pre-built professional PowerPoint templates online. While I normally create my own PowerPoint templates ( see guide here ), pre-built templates are a fantastic way to jump start the template creation process, or simply avoid having to create one on your own entirely. Below are my four recommended places for finding professional PowerPoint templates online.

And the reason this list is important is, if you are creating a lot of PowerPoint slides and you aren’t using a template yet, you are missing out. PowerPoint templates allow you to quickly create professional presentations based on your company’s theme colors, fonts, etc. That way your entire team can stay on brand when building their presentations.

The question is if you don’t already have a good one (or want to get a new one), where do you start? Especially as the default templates you get with PowerPoint are neither attractive nor are they unique.

To save you the trouble of having to comb the web for great places to find professional templates, I’ve boiled down my favorite places to find PowerPoint templates online (plus my favorite ones from each).

Envato is a large platform where professional designers can sell and distribute their presentation templates. Many of them include hundreds of slides, as well as custom icons you can use.

As you will see if you visit their site, their templates are typically modern, stylish and trendy. On top of that, they are also built with PowerPoint in mind (so they actually work).

The advantage of joining Envato, with their simple $29/month fee, is that you get access to unlimited downloads from their huge selection of templates and other assets such as photographs, video, and audio.

Our favorite templates that you will find on the Envato site are the templates created by designer  inspirasign . Based on our research, those have been the highest quality templates built properly in PowerPoint.

Just keep in mind that each template on the Envato site is created by a different designer and will be built differently. So, make sure you check the following before you use a designer’s template:

The color scheme – can you easily change from the original color scheme to your own? The font size – is it readable? Whether the icons and fonts are free, and if they come with the template.

SlidesCarnival  (free PowerPoint Templates)

While the templates offered on SlidesCarnival are free, they are much lower quality and include much fewer slides and assets than the  SlideCow  and  Envato  templates recommended above.

That said, if you aren’t ready to pay for your template (but you really should consider paying for it!), you can browse through SlidesCarnival’s site, which includes a wide variety of free professional PowerPoint templates you can download and use.

They offer professional designs that cover all styles from playful and creative, to formal and business. You’ll find that all templates are completely customizable and easy-to-edit.

However, be wary!

Most of the templates you find aren’t real PowerPoint templates in that they are not properly built-out on the slide master, and should therefore be used only for one-off situations.

Most of the templates you’ll find on SlidesCarvinal include:

• 25 different slides
• A customizable icon family with different icons and a world map (you can change sizes and colors)
• The ability to also use it as a Google Slides theme or export to PDF, JPG, etc.
• 16:9 screen layout
• Free to download and use

TemplateMonster

TemplateMonster is a large platform where designers can sell and distribute their presentation templates. Many of them include hundreds of slides, as well as custom icons you can use. Their templates cover a wide range of styles, and many of them follow the latest design trends.

Warning: Many of the templates on this platform are not 100% real PowerPoint templates (see  what is a PowerPoint template  for more details) as they only partially use the Slide Master the way they are supposed to. So, you need to be careful when purchasing a template here.

The ones I recommend are the following 2 templates created by designer  Zacomic Studios :

• Marketing PRO
• Pitch Master

You can buy templates one at a time (typically around $15-20), or you can join TemplateMonster’s simple $19/month membership, which grants you access to unlimited downloads from their huge selection of templates, graphics, and web design elements.

Keep in mind that each template on the TemplateMonster site is created by a different designer and will be built differently. So make sure you check the following before you use a designer’s template:

A well-built PowerPoint template will save you and your team HUNDREDS of hours of frustration when building and editing slides in PowerPoint.

The key is finding a properly built and functional template (or building one from scratch for yourself). The above are our four favorite places that we’ve found online for professional PowerPoint templates, but others do exist.

In this write-up, I have compiled a list of 50+ places to download Google Slides themes and/or PowerPoint templates for creating your best presentation. I am going to discuss the best ten websites in detail and list the others for you.

Behance is a popular social media platform for creatives . It is a place to connect and inspire creative people using a creative portfolio profile. Behance hosts tons of excellent themes and templates for Google Slides and PowerPoint. And it is completely free to browse the network without an account.

You can simply search for them and utilize Color and Tools filters below the search bar to refine the results. Though Behance may offer some of the best themes or templates listed by its creative members, it does not organize them into categories, making it difficult to browse them per requirements.

2. Presentation Magazine

Presentation Magazine is one of the best websites to download templates for PowerPoint. Surprisingly, it boasts of hosting 76,300+ PowerPoint templates and backgrounds — all for free. And you can browse or download them without a user account. However, it does not avail any themes for Google Slides.

Unlike Behance, Presentation Magazine organizes templates into categories , making it easy for you to browse them. You can also browse them per color, popularity, tag and/or search using keywords. However, you may also find some silly templates like printable calendars, slides having only images, etc.

3. Powered Template

Powered Template is one of the best sites to download templates for a variety of office programs including PowerPoint, Word, Google Slides, etc. Amazingly, it offers a variety of templates, including but not limited to brochures, charts and diagrams, flyers, maps, newsletters, letterheads, and a lot more.

Powered Template offers 12,300+ PowerPoint templates and 1,200+ Google Slides themes , unlike the sites below. You can browse its templates by category or color and/or search for them using keywords to quickly find them. However, I find its templates have only a few slides, so you may need to mix and match them.

4. Slides Carnival

Slides Carnival is another superb website for downloading themes and templates for Google Slides and PowerPoint. It contains over 180 Powerpoint templates and Google Slides themes, allowing you to quickly create presentations.

As like Presentation Magazine, Slides Carnival organizes its templates into categories. And you can browse them by topic categories, style categories, and color . Unlike Presentation Magazine, I find Slides Carnival has good-looking themes and templates compared to other hosts that mostly have silly-looking templates.

5. AllPPT.com

AllPPT.com is another featureful website for downloading themes and templates for Google Slides and PowerPoint. Unlike the above sites, it also offers other freebies including charts and diagrams for your next presentation slides. Also, I noticed some of its templates are well-designed with modern colors .

As like Presentation Magazine and Slides Carnival, AllPPT.com organizes stuff into categories, letting you quickly view them. You can browse through category or popular keywords and/or search for templates using keywords. Although its templates may not be superb, I find they contain multiple featureful slides.

6. PresentationGO

PresentationGO is another provider of free Google Slides themes and PowerPoint templates. I find its templates visually appealing though some of them may not appeal to you. It also offers other freebies like charts and diagrams, quotes and tables, timelines and planning, maps, and more.

PresentationGO boasts of offering 1,400+ free PowerPoint templates . You can browse them by tag or color or search using keywords. But unlike many sites on the list, PresentationGO does not categorize its templates into categories.

Showeet is another website with compilations of themes and templates for Google Slides and PowerPoint. Though it has just 90+ templates under the category named Free PowerPoint templates , it offers a lot more templates under other categories like Business cards, Resume / CV, and others.

Unlike Presentation Magazine, Showeet does not organize templates into categories — at least not into helpful categories. The latest presentation apps have made it easier than ever to format slides and create professional-looking slideshows without giving off a "this is a template" vibe. Even standard PowerPoint alternatives have updated key features to make it easier than ever to collaborate and create presentations quickly, so you can spend more time prepping for your actual presentation.

If, like me, you've used Google Slides unquestioningly for years, it's a whole new world out there. The newest crop of online presentation tools go way beyond the classic slideshow experience, with new features to keep your audience's attention, streamline the creation process with AI, and turn slide decks into videos and interactive conversations.

I've been testing these apps for the past few years, and this time, I spent several days tinkering with 25 of the top presentation software solutions out there to bring you the best of the best.

What makes the best presentation app, how we evaluate and test apps.

When looking for the best presentation apps, I wanted utility players. After all, slideshows are used for just about everything, from pitch decks and product launches to class lectures and church sermons. With that in mind, here's what I was looking for:

Pre-built templates. The best presentation tools should have attractive, professional-looking templates to build presentations in a hurry.

Sharing and collaboration options. Whether you plan to share your webinar slides later, or you just want to collaborate with a coworker on a presentation, it should be easy to share files and collaborate in real-time.

Flexibility and customization options. Templates are great, but top presentation apps should enable you to customize just about everything—giving you the flexibility to build exactly what you need.

Affordability. Creating compelling presentations is important, but you shouldn't have to bust your budget to make it happen. With capable free tools on the market, affordability is a top consideration.

Standalone functionality. There's no reason to use multiple tools when one can do it all, so I didn't test any apps that require and work on top of another presentation app like PowerPoint or Google Slides.

Familiar, deck-based interface. For our purposes here, I only tested software that uses slides, with the familiar deck-based editor you expect from a "presentation" tool (versus, for example, a video creation app).

Beyond that, I also looked for presentation apps that brought something unique to the table—features above and beyond what you can get for free from a legacy solution like PowerPoint or Google Slides.

Here's what my testing workflow looked like:

I went through any onboarding or guided tutorials.

I created a new deck, scanning through all available templates, noting how well-designed they were (and which were free versus paid).

I added new slides, deleted slides, edited text and images, and played around with other content types.

I changed presentation design settings, like color schemes and background images.

I reviewed and tested the sharing and collaboration options.

I tested out presenter view (when available).

After my first round of testing, I went back into the top performers to test any unique or niche features, like AI, brand settings, and interactive content. With that, these are the best presentation apps I found—each one really brings something different or radically easy to the table.

The AI tools aren't groundbreakingly useful

Canva offers one of the most robust free plans of all the presentation apps I tested. The app delays account creation until after you've created your first design, so you can get started building your presentation in seconds. Choose from an almost overwhelming number of beautiful templates (nearly all available for free), including those designed specifically for education or business use cases.

Anyone who's accidentally scrolled too far and been bumped to the next slide will appreciate Canva's editor interface, which eliminates that problem altogether with a smooth scroll that doesn't jump around. Choose from a handful of preset animations to add life to your presentations, or browse the library of audio and video files available to add. And Canva also has a number of options for sharing your presentation, including adding collaborators to your team, sharing directly to social media, and even via QR code.

Present directly from Canva, and let audience members submit their questions via Canva Live. Once you share a link to invite audience members to your presentation, they can send questions for you to answer. As the presenter, you'll see them pop up in your presenter view window, so you can keep the audience engaged and your presentation clear. Alternatively, record a presentation with a talking head bubble—you can even use an AI presenter here—to share remotely.

If you're like me, editing granular spacing issues is the absolute worst part of building a presentation. Beautiful.ai uses artificial intelligence to take a lot of the hassle and granular design requirements out of the presentation process, so you can focus on the content of a presentation without sacrificing professional design. If I needed to make presentations on a regular basis, this is the app I'd use.

Many apps have recently added AI design features, but Beautiful.ai has been doing it for years—and they've perfected the experience of AI design, ensuring the tool's reign as the most streamlined and user-friendly option for AI design.

The editor is a little different from most presentation apps, but it's still intuitive—and you'll start off with a quick two-minute tutorial. When creating a new slide, scroll through "inspiration slides" to find a layout you like; once you choose, the app will pull the layout and automatically adapt it to match the design of the rest of your presentation.

With 10 themes, several templated slides, over 40 fully-designed templates, and more than 20 different color palettes to choose from, Beautiful.ai strikes a perfect balance between automation and customization.

While Beautiful.ai doesn't offer a free plan, paid plans are reasonably priced and offer sharing and collaboration options that rival collab-focused apps like Google Slides. And speaking of Google, you can connect Beautiful.ai with Google Drive to save all your presentations there.

Note: I re-tested the generative AI feature (called DesignerBot) this year. It's great for adding individual slides to an existing presentation—automatically choosing the best layout and matching the design to the rest of the deck—but as with most other apps, it struggled to pull in relevant images.

Struggling to squeeze information into a basic, linear presentation? Give Prezi a try. Unlike nearly all other presentation apps on the market, Prezi Present doesn't restrict the structure of your presentation to a straight line. The editor focuses on topics and subtopics and allows you to arrange them any way you want, so you can create a more conversational flow of information.

With the structural flexibility, you still get all the same customization features you expect from top presentation software, including fully-editable templates. There's a learning curve if you're unfamiliar with non-linear presentations, but templates offer a great jumping-off point, and Prezi's editor does a good job of making the process more approachable.

Plus, Prezi comes with two other apps: Prezi Design and Prezi Video. Prezi Video helps you take remote presentations to a new level. You can record a video where the presentation elements are displayed right over your webcam feed. Record and save the video to share later, or connect with your video conferencing tool of choice (including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet) to present live.

Prezi's generative AI feature works ok, but it's more useful as a wireframe. When I asked it to create a presentation about the Stanley Cup Playoffs, for example, the resulting content read a lot like a student writing a term paper in the broadest strokes possible to avoid doing any actual research.

Powtoon makes it easy to create engaging videos by orienting the editor around a slide deck. Editing a Powtoon feels just like editing a presentation, but by the time you finish, you have a professional video. 

You can edit your slides at any time, and when you hit play, a video plays through your deck—the feel is almost like an animated explainer video. Each slide includes the animations you choose and takes up as much time as is needed based on the content on the slide. Powtoon figures the timing automatically, and you can see in the bottom-right of the editor how much time is used on your current slide versus the total presentation. If you ever want to present as a slide deck, just toggle between Slideshow and Movie.

You'll likely need to subscribe to a paid plan to get the most out of Powtoon—like creating videos longer than three minutes, downloading them as MP4 files, and white-labeling your presentations—but doing so won't break the bank. Plus, you'll unlock tons of templates complete with animations and soundtracks.

One of my favorite Powtoon features is the ability to orient your video: you can choose horizontal orientation (like a normal presentation) or opt for vertical (for mobile) or square (for social media). When your presentation is ready, you can publish straight to YouTube, Wistia, Facebook Ads, and any number of other locations.

User interface is a little different than you're used to

Need to collaborate on presentations with your team? Pitch is a Google Slides alternative that gets the job done. As far as decks go, Pitch includes all the beautifully-designed templates, customizability, and ease of use you expect from a top-notch presentation tool. But the app really shines when you add your team.

The right-hand sidebar is all about project management and collaboration: you can set and update the status of your deck, assign entire presentations or individual slides to team members, plus comment or add notes. Save custom templates to make future presentations even easier and faster.

You can also invite collaborators from outside your company to work with you on individual decks. And if you opt for a paid plan, Pitch introduces workspace roles, shared private folders, and version history.

Pitch also offers one of the most impressive generative AI features on this list. It still struggles to pull in relevant images, but I found the AI-generated written content and design to be top-notch.

I tested a lot of apps claiming to use AI to up your presentation game, and Gamma's conversational AI features were head and shoulders above the crowd.

Simply give the app a topic—or upload an outline, notes, or any other document or article—approve the outline, and pick a theme. The app will take it from there and create a fully fleshed-out presentation. It's far from perfect, but Gamma produces a very useful jumping-off point. (Last year, it was by far the best, but this year, other apps are catching up.)

Here's the key: Gamma is much more geared toward the iterative, chatbot experience familiar to ChatGPT users. Click on the Edit with AI button at the top of the right-hand menu to open the chat, and you'll see suggested prompts—or you can type in your own requests for how Gamma should alter the presentation.

Once you've done all you can with prompts, simply close the chat box to manually add the finishing touches. While you do sacrifice some granular customizability in exchange for the AI features, you can still choose your visual theme, change slide layouts, format text, and add any images, videos, or even app and web content.

If you need to engage with an audience during your presentation, Mentimeter makes that easy. The app is designed around interactive elements like quizzes, surveys, Q&As, sliders, and more (even a Miro whiteboard!).

Each of these is included in a number of different, professional-looking templates, so you can build a fully interactive presentation super quickly.

When it's time to present, your audience members can scan the QR code with their phone cameras or type in the URL and access code to participate. There's one code per presentation (so they won't have to do this on every slide), which gives access to each slide as you move through the presentation.

There are two main drawbacks to this one, though. First, there's a bit of a learning curve and less familiar editing interface (but I found it pretty easy to learn with some practice). The other drawback is that you can't get as granular with the visual customization as you can with many other presentation tools.

Simple, customizable templates

Intuitive doc-style editor

There's definitely a learning curve

Tome is one of the new additions to this list that I'm most excited about. If you're looking for generative AI that just genuinely works , it's definitely worth a look. The editor is a bit more stripped down than most presentation apps but intuitive nonetheless—it's almost a cross between your standard deck editor and a Notion-style doc.

To generate an AI deck, click Generate with AI in the top right, and either write your own prompt or choose from the example prompts that cover a handful of common use cases, like sales enablement and company pitches. Edit or approve the suggested outline, then generate the full presentation.

From there, you can edit each slide as a doc via the right-hand menu—without limits on how much information you can include. During the presentation, you simply size down any slides that take up more than the standard amount of space. It's super simple but somehow feels revolutionary in a presentation app.

What about the old standbys?

You might notice a few major presentation players aren't on this list, including OGs Microsoft PowerPoint, Apple Keynote, and Google Slides. These apps are perfectly adequate for creating basic presentations, and they're free if you have a Windows or Mac device or a Google account.

I didn't include them on the list because the presentation space has really developed in the last several years, and after testing them out, I found these behemoths haven't kept pace. If they weren't made by Microsoft/Apple/Google, I might not even be mentioning them. They're pretty basic tools, they're behind the curve when it comes to templates (both quantity and design), and they don't offer any uniquely valuable features like robust team collaboration, branding controls, video, and so on.

In any case, if you're reading this, you're probably looking for an alternative that allows you to move away from one of the big 3, and as the presentation platforms featured above show, there's a ton to gain—in terms of features, usability, and more—when you do.

What about PowerPoint and Google Slides add-ons?

While I focused my testing on tools with full feature-sets—those that can serve as your sole presentation tool—there are a ton of add-on tools you can use atop big name tools like PowerPoint and Google Slides.
