Product details
Whether you have to plan an event or manage a project, a to do list helps you set priorities and track your progress. By listing out all the necessary steps in one place, you can break down your goal in small, bite-sized chunks and organize your time accordingly. To-Do lists have reportedly been around since the early twentieth century when they were introduced as a way to improve productivity. The vast majority of people would probably admit to using them at least from time to time as a way of managing their workload and flow. There are some simple ways in which you can write to-do lists that help you to achieve more – have more than one list, keep your daily or weekly lists manageable, break tasks down into smaller steps, and be as precise as possible, keep your list up to date. To Do List Template will be useful to absolutely everyone. In any area of production and services, employees are faced with the tasks that they have to do every day.
The four slides that come with this template provide you with the complete toolbox you need to get your to-do list in a hurry. The first sheet is presented in the form of four main tasks. On the right side, you can mark completed tasks. For example, team leaders might use this slide in their daily meetings. The second slide presents a table where you can specify the task title, short description, deadline. This slide can be used as a reminder of scheduled appointments and job interviews. The next slide provides a great tool for managing your to-do list. What is this instrument? You can display your tasks by dividing them into categories – low priority, medium priority, a high priority. Also, this slide makes it possible to indicate the progress of the task – to do list, progress list, completed list. This slide can be used in a warehouse in preparation for the shipment of several types of goods. Warehouse workers can see how many positions have already been selected, what is left, and what is in the process. This will help the warehouse manager to properly distribute the load. The last slide is presented as two lists. This is very convenient if you are running several projects in parallel. This slide will definitely be useful for project managers.
By changing the name of the columns or rearranging them, you can easily build the perfect template for your business. This template can be used as a guide when checking the machine before starting work. For example, inspect the machine from all sides to make sure there is no damage. Measure the oil and coolant levels. Switch on the machine and make sure that hazard indicators are not displayed on the display. The slides in this template can be used by safety personnel. To Do List Template is a stylish and professional template that includes a variety of tools to apply it to a variety of business areas.

After choosing a premium template, you’ll want to customize it. Here’s how to customize a premium template.
In this tutorial, I’ll customize slide five of the Infographic premium template. You can find it on Envato Elements.
Let's get started:
1. Add Your Information
Slide five already has a list, so you just need to add your own information. To do this, highlight the text that you want to change and press the Delete key on your keyboard.
This erases the current text. Now you can add your text.
2. Add a Text Box
This slide only comes with four bullet points in the list. Your PowerPoint list could be longer, so you may need to add another text box.
To add a text box, click on the Insert tab. Next, in the toolbar, click on the Text Box button. Then, click on the blank spot where you want your text box to be and draw a diagonal line.
Now you've got a text box. You’ll see a blinking cursor in it. This means you can start typing.
3. Make It Match
After you add a text box and put information in it, you’ll want to make that bullet point look like the others. To do this, you can copy and paste objects.
To copy an object, right-click on it, and you’ll see a menu pop up. Choose the Copy option. Next, right-click in a blank area where you want the object, and choose the Paste option.
Finally, move the object to where you want it to be.
4. Change the Object's Color
You can change the color of an object. To begin, click on the object that you want to change the color of. Next, select the Shape Format tab above the toolbar.
Then, click on the arrow next to the Shape Fill button. When you click on the Shape Fill button, a color menu drops down. Choose the color that you want.
5. Change the Background Color
Changing the background color can make your slide stand out. To do it, click on the Design tab. Then, in the toolbar, click on the Format Background button. A format pane opens on the right side of your window.
You’ll see a Color field with the Fill Color button in the format pane. When you click the Fill Color button, a color menu drops down. Choose the color you need.
You've got your hands on a pre-built PowerPoint template, so what now? It's time to start creating an impactful presentation. Here are five design tips to get you on the right track.
1. Know Your Audience
Presentations need to represent your brand, suit your content, and resonate with your audience. Do some research to know who your audience is.
2. Tell Visual Stories
Wordy presentations can be dull and hard to follow, reflecting poorly on you and your brand. Turn your presentation into a visual story. Make sure it's suitable for your subject and audience.
Check out this tutorial to learn more:
3. Keep It Minimalist
Most modern premium PowerPoint templates are minimalist. This is simply because it's best to avoid overloaded slides. They end up looking unprofessional.
Here are a few ways to keep a presentation minimalist:
- Don't add more design elements to a pre-built professional template.
- Leave as much white space as possible.
- Use only a few colors or stick to the color themes the template comes with.
- Use bullet points or visuals.
4. Mix It Up
Grab attention by using different infographics, visuals, and media elements. View your presentation in Slide Sorter view to get an overview of it. If you notice three or more slides looking the same, try changing the design elements or the visuals.
5. Use High-Quality Images and Graphics
Pixelated or stretched visuals ruin any presentation deck. Use high-quality photos and graphics at all times.
Pick and download as many visuals as you need from Envato Elements. With a monthly subscription, you'll get unlimited access to millions of digital assets.

Get rid of bullet points! 7 creative list presentation ideas

Last Updated on June 28, 2024 by Barbara
Do you use bullet point lists often in your presentations? I bet the answer is yes. What is more: we use them every day, and not only at work. There are project plans, TODO lists, priority checklists, agendas, principles, and lots of others. Let’s get creative, go a little bit further than creating default SmartArt diagrams, and explore innovative list presentation ideas.
Here are a few fresh alternatives you can use to replace default bullet point enumerations in your presentations and make your notes more structured.
Editable PowerPoint graphic for bullet-points replacement is available in this Universal Diagrams Collection PPT Slide-Deck .
I believe you are tired of bullet points and simple lists as same as I do, so why don’t put a touch of originality to our slides? That way it is possible to create more attractive designs and, of course, impress your audience.
Here are several approaches you can use instead of bullet point enumerations:
- represent list by graphical metaphor , for example, a lighthouse graphics: when you need to illustrate strategy direction, leadership, or vision concepts. Or use a puzzle shape if your list should express points that create a strongly connected idea.
- replace bullets with a set of shapes with text inside e.g. arrows, circles, hexagons or rectangles. Using standard PowerPoint shapes is enough.
- use iconography to illustrate points , assigning a theme-related icon for a specific item.
Let’s explore several slide examples below.
7 Creative Ways of Illustrating a List
The general idea is to replace each item in bullet points with a visually more attractive design element. Below you’ll find several options of shapes you can consider. I suggest using shape types and colors that fit the most your brand or the graphical style you use in your business materials (every shape and symbol from our collection is editable).
1. Use illustration metaphor
You can build a list around some illustration that is composed of certain elements, for example a jigsaw puzzle, set of bricks or stairs. Ideally if an illustration is related to your presentation topic.
A graphic can be used as a central element with list items around it (in our case it is a lighthouse slide below), or as a side element, or you can write item names inside the illustration, if the text is short.
The lighthouse metaphor is also useful when you want to illustrate strategy direction, leadership, or vision concepts in an attractive way. Here are more examples of using these graphics:
You can explore the full collection of lighthouse infographics here:
2. List inside a shape – Dynamic Arrows Style
One idea is to replace bullet points with a series of arrows. You can use one color or several ones for each item. These arrow-shaped lists are good for expressing dynamic style. They quickly grab attention to a certain point:
You can apply your brand colors to the lists, as the arrows are PowerPoint editable shapes. Additionally, you can enrich the main points by adding a symbol for each item. Download the collection here:
If you are looking for concept visualization ideas, check this article: One Picture to Rule Them All – Concept Visualization List .
Here’s an example of a project plan checklist, illustrated with icons:
It’s quite a dense list so with help of the icons you can visualize your content better. Symbols make it easier to read and remember.
3. Key Components List Inside Hexagon Shapes
Lists with an odd number of points are a bit more problematic to create because they are harder to spread out symmetrically on the slide. Think about some shapes in which you can type the text and distribute it so that it forms an attractive whole (such as the shape of a honeycomb). If the points do not have a lot of content, you can additionally enrich them with icons. Here’s an example of such a list:
This slide example is part of the HR Talent Management presentation deck .
4. List with Numerous Strongly Related Points
When you need to present more points on the list, you can try the wheel layout. The individual elements of the list are distributed evenly around some circular element, in the following case it is a diagram consisting of three puzzles.
You can see more templates to illustrate actions against climate change here .
5. Road Signs as Bullets
Road signs are assigned to each point and affixed with the corresponding icon on the slides below. We chose the graphics of the road sign because we are talking about the rules of the workplace in this example and this visualization seems to be an interesting metaphor here. It’s good practice to find a metaphor for the content and visualize it graphically.
How to create such a sign? If you take a good look, you will see that it consists of the simple shapes that are in PowerPoint (circle and rectangle, seriously, there are no simpler shapes 😉 ) just fold them properly and you’re done.
See more slides from the road signs infographics deck here:
6. Circle Strip Lists for Smooth, Perfection Style
Okay, but what if we will get through pretty standard arrows to something more original but at the same time professional-looking? Our designers were experimenting a lot and here’s the result:
Looks more attractive than a standard bullet-point list, doesn’t it? 🙂 Such circles don’t steal attention from the content and add a modern touch to the slide.
Replace default bullet points in your agenda with colorful or mono-color lists with circles aside, see the full deck here . These rounded shapes can be used to represent values of something stable, friendly, something ideally shaped, and perfect.
7. Teardrop Shapes List Presentation Ideas to Combine Dynamics and Perfection
“Okay, – you would say, – but if I want to use arrows, but also like the idea of ideal round shapes?” Then I have to advise you on teardrops – a combination of arrows and circles together. This is a really good way to design eye-catchy slides without special knowledge and effort:
You can use teardrop lists for your investor pitches, market research reports, HR, strategy, and planning presentations .
Apply list diagrams for comparisons or longer agendas, and place as many items as you need. Check the teardrop lists set here .
Attractive lists can greatly refresh the overall slides’ look. A collection of design ideas by hand will help you create highly visual and elegant presentation content, and support your storyline.

Catching up with a long list of things to complete is always an overwhelming situation. When you don't plan all your tasks as per their priority, missing out some of the important ones or struggling hard to complete them on or by the deadlines is a common scene. This makes it utterly important to maintain a proper To Do List that places all your important tasks according to their priority right in one place. This saves you from forgetting anything important. Most importantly, everything comes under your immediate attention. Apart from using it for personal management, it forms an important part of regular business presentations allocating tasks to the staff or illustrating important projects your company is working on or all set to work on.

7 Creative Ways to Visualize Your To-Do List
If you're craving something more colorful and creative—or something that gives you a higher-level view of what you have on your plate—a visual to-do list could be exactly what you need. Below, you'll find seven different ways to visualize your to-do list, along with details on when each approach is most useful.
1. Hang Your To-Do List on the Wall to Keep Tasks Top-of-Mind
I'm really bad about creating to-do lists and then never actually using them. For example, I have a to-do label in Gmail. When I get an email with something I'd like to take action on—but that isn't terribly pressing—I assign the to-do label to the email to get it out of my inbox.
The problem: I never actually look through my to-do folder.
Another thing I like to do is to write to-dos in the same notebook I use to take notes while doing research for articles I'm writing. But I usually end up flipping the page because I'm taking notes, and I never flip back to collect the to-dos I wrote down.
The point of having a to-do list is not only to document your to-dos, but also to refer to what you've documented to decide what to work on next. If you only collect to-dos and never refer back to them, you're essentially relying on your memory to recall your outstanding tasks.
If you struggle with the same problem, you might want to create a physical to-do list and put it somewhere that you can't help but look at it. Here are some options.
Use a big sheet of paper and markers
A cheap, simple option is to get some butcher paper and write your to-dos on it with markers. But if you want something nicer-looking, you can get an easel pad—a giant notebook that's usually used for presentations—to create a big calendar or task list.
You can write your to-dos on your list using a single color, but using multiple colors gives your list a bit more character. Plus, you can use different colors to signify a task's category or priority if you want an easy way to distinguish between different types of tasks.
Use a whiteboard or chalkboard
If you want a more reusable option, create your physical to-do list on a whiteboard or chalkboard. And if you don't want to put holes in your wall to hang a board, you can always set it on a surface and lean it against a wall for stability, or you could even buy some whiteboard paint or chalkboard paint to turn your wall into a to-do board.
One of the advantages of getting a freestanding board and not mounting it to your wall is that you can take it with you when needed. This makes it a great option if you sometimes work at home and sometimes work in the office but always need your to-do list on hand.
Use sticky notes
Using sticky notes can be a fun way to organize your schedule visually. You can stick them anywhere—on your desk, monitor, whiteboard, refrigerator, or the wall—so they can double as to-dos and reminders. Plus, they come in lots of bright colors, so it's easy to color-code task categories and priorities.
The other nice thing about sticky notes is that they're movable, so you could start by sticking all of your to-dos onto the wall and later rearrange your sticky notes into sections based on priority (one section each for high-, medium-, and low-priority tasks), status (backlog, in progress, blocked, done), or date (to do today, tomorrow, Wednesday, next week, etc.).
2. Create a Kanban Board to Move Tasks Through a Process
A kanban board is a great method for visualizing to-dos that need to go through a series of steps—sort of like an assembly line—before they're complete.
For example, when I have a writing assignment, I don't just write the article and mark it as complete. I write it, submit it for review, and make edits after it's reviewed. Then, I wait for it to be published before adding it to my LinkedIn profile and website. Only after all of those steps have been completed is the assignment fully complete.
Since that's an assembly-line type of process, I use a kanban board to document my writing assignments and track where they are in that pipeline.
Here are some more examples:
Create Trello cards from new Typeform responses
Create Trello cards from new Evernote notes
Create Trello cards from new saved Slack messages
Forward an email to create tasks in MeisterTask
Create MeisterTask tasks using a Google Chrome extension
Schedule new tasks in MeisterTask weekly
3. Use Visuals to Assign and Identify Priorities
A typical to-do list looks something like this:
It's functional—it lists the tasks I need to complete—but it doesn't tell me which are the most important.
To evaluate importance, I have to read through each task to find the one that's most pressing. But I might not read through them all, especially if it's a long list. I might stop as soon as I see something I know needs to be completed soon, therefore missing something more pressing that's further down the list.
Create a priority matrix
Doing this exercise on a sheet of paper and then sticking it to the wall near your desk is helpful during busy times. It's easy to get overwhelmed by a long task list, so having your priority matrix on the wall can help remind you what you need to focus on—and what to ignore or put off until later.
4. Put Tasks on a Calendar to Plan Your Time Better
There are plenty of analog ways to add tasks to a calendar. You can buy a daily planner or big desk calendar from any office supply store, or you could create your own calendar using sticky notes and a wall or a writing instrument and whiteboard/chalkboard. To keep costs low, you could even print out a calendar on regular printer paper.
5. Doodle Your To-Dos in a Notebook to Avoid Feeling Overwhelmed
If you're artistic—or if you want to try something a bit different—you can turn your to-do list into a work of art using images and/or creative lettering to list your outstanding tasks.
6. Use Google Sheets to See How You're Spending Your Time
Bold certain types of tasks, italicize others, or even add a border around cells. Whatever stands out to you visually, go with that. You can even use conditional formatting to automatically format rows that contain specific text, like if you always want to highlight rows with a specific person's name—say, an important client or your boss.
The other advantage of using Google Sheets as a to-do list is that you can turn your tasks into a graph or pie chart. For example, let's say you're trying to manage your time better, and you decide you want to allocate 40% of your time to work, 30% to spending time with family, 10% to chores, 10% to fun, and 10% to professional development.
Save new Gmail emails matching certain traits to a Google Spreadsheet
Send Saved Messages in Slack to a Google Spreadsheet
Create new google sheets row from a new google calendar event.
Generate Google Calendar events from new Google Sheets rows
Create new google sheet rows from new google tasks.
7. Use a Mind Map to Break Down Large Tasks
A to-do list is great when you know what exactly it is you need to do, but that isn't always the case. Sometimes, you have a big project you know you need to finish, but you need to break it down into smaller tasks and to-dos. Or you have a major goal but need to break the goal down into actionable steps.
You Don't Have to Choose Just One Type of Visual To-Do List
The best approach to visual to-do lists is to use the different options only when it makes sense to use them. For example, I use Trello for my work assignments and sticky notes on my refrigerator for things I need to do at home, but if I'm planning a major project for either work or home, I tend to gravitate toward mind maps and spreadsheets.
If you turn your wall into a dry-erase board with whiteboard paint or subscribe to an app with a monthly subscription fee, you'll probably want to use that method fairly often. But the nice thing about most of these methods is that they're flexible and situational, so you don't have to choose just one.
Originally written by Belle Cooper and published in September 2014, this post has been updated with some additional methods for visualizing your to-do list, plus some new tools and apps that make it easier to create a visual to-do list.

This Was the Best Opening Ceremony Paris Could Give Us?
The city seemed exhausted, not exuberant.
Produced by ElevenLabs and News Over Audio (NOA) using AI narration.
Well, that was a nice idea in theory. Paris held the first-ever Olympics opening ceremony to take place outside a stadium—and on one of the loveliest settings in the world, the Seine. Athletes paraded not by foot but by boat, waving flags from sleek cruising pontoons, as pageantry unfolded on bridges and riverbanks. The aquatic format promised to do more than just showcase the architectural beauty of Paris or convey the magic of strolling across the Pont Neuf with fresh bread in hand. It promised to offer the world—our ever more jaded, content-drowned world—something new to look at.
Unfortunately, that new thing was a mess. Some will blame the rain, which soaked the festivities for hours, adding an air of tragedy as athletes waved flags from within their ponchos. But even on a sunnier day, the ceremony would have served as an example of how not to stage a spectacle for live TV. The energy was low, the pacing bizarre, and the execution patchy. Paris tried to project itself as a modern, inclusive hub of excitement—but it mostly just seemed exhausted.
Olympics opening ceremonies are inevitably ridiculous affairs, usually in a fun way. The host nation must welcome the global community while cobbling all of the signifiers of its own identity into some sort of romping medley that also, ideally, expands that country’s image in helpful ways. London offered the Queen and James Bond, and also a tribute to the National Health Service. Rio hosted a rumbling dance party as well as a briefing on Brazil’s Indigenous history. Most important, both of those cities gave us good TV.
Beforehand, the Paris event’s artistic director, Thomas Jolly, announced his intentions to play with Gallic clichés. Key words— liberté , synchronicité , and so on—announced thematic chapters, but a narrative hardly cohered. Congratulations if you had the following on your bingo card: mimes, Louis Vuitton, parkour, Les Mis é rables , the cancan, lasers shooting out of the Eiffel Tower , allusions to ménages à trois. But credit where it’s due—I really did not foresee the Minions stealing the Mona Lisa and bringing it aboard a Jules Verne–style submarine. On reflection, that was the most educational part of the show: learning that a Frenchman co-directed Despicable Me .
One problem with this French fever dream is that much of it was prerecorded. Every few minutes, the telecast would cut to slick cinematography of a masked, hooded individual—that’s what the NBC broadcasters kept calling her, “the Individual”—sneaking the Olympic torch around. She went to the Louvre, where the paintings came to life. She went to a movie screening, where a Lumière-brothers film ... came to life. These segments hit with all the force of a cruise-ship commercial, while distracting from the novelty of having a ceremony on water in the first place.
The live components of the show weren’t much more vibrant. A bridge was converted into a runway on which fashion models and drag queens strutted with the gusto and precision of a forced march. Platforms over the river itself featured extreme-sports performers doing tricks that the TV cameras seemed suspiciously afraid of showing in close-up. Lady Gaga put on a feather-laden cabaret performance that was perfectly fine, save for the fact that “perfectly fine” shouldn’t be anywhere near the name Lady Gaga. (As it turns out, that performance was prerecorded too.)
One of the only showstopping moments made clear that the weird vibes of the ceremony could largely be blamed on the detail work. At one point, the camera cut to a woman dressed as Marie Antoinette and holding her own babbling, chopped-off head. The heavy-metal band Gojira broke into riffage, and flames fired. This was righteous. But then, not much happened. Viewers were left to grow bored with static, wide shots of the performance. Eventually, a fake boat wheeled into view, looking quite a bit like a prop from a high-school play.
The best bits took place firmly on land. The pop star Aya Nakamura danced with the French Republican Guard in a flashy meeting of old and new cultural regimes. Once the sun set, “the Individual” emerged in real life to ride a cool-looking mechanical horse down the Seine. (It must be said that this journey was interminable.) The Olympic cauldron was cool too: It resembled a hot-air balloon, and it rose into the air when lit. To finish things off, Celine Dion made her seemingly unlikely return to singing, heaving with emotion from a deck of the Eiffel.
Perhaps it is no coincidence that carefully composed, largely stable images were the highlights of a show that tried to reinvent the Olympic ceremony in fluid directions. My favorite moment was when the pianist Alexandre Kantorow played Maurice Ravel’s Jeux d’Eau from a bridge as rain puddled on his instrument. He looked sad and soaked but also unbothered, lost in music. He made me remember the word I’d been trying to think of, for one of those ineffable French feelings: malaise .

Paris 2024 Olympics medal tally: Australian winners from every sport - full list and table
Over 460 Australian athletes are competing for medals in 329 events at the Paris 2024 Olympics , scheduled from July 26 to August 11.
There is considerable Australian interest in 42 of the 45 sports on the Paris 2024 programme. The only sports without any Aussie presence at the ongoing Summer Games are fencing, handball and volleyball .
Road cyclist Grace Brown recorded the first entry in Australia’s Paris 2024 Olympics medal tally with a gold in the women’s time trial on July 27. It was also Australia’s first-ever gold medal in the event.
Later, the Australian women's 4x100m freestyle relay won the gold medal with a new Olympic record time of 3:28.92.
The medals keep Australia’s proud Olympic tradition intact.
Australians have participated in every edition of the Summer Games since the modern Olympics began with Athens 1896 and have returned with at least one medal from each of them.
However, Australian and New Zealand athletes competed together under the Australasia flag at London 1908 and Stockholm 1912.
Heading into Paris 2024, Australian athletes have won 557 medals - 167 gold, 177 silver and 213 bronze - at the Olympics.
Edwin Flack won gold medals in men’s 800m and 1500m at Athens 1896, thus becoming the first Australian to win a medal at the Olympics. Who are Gojira, the Metal Band from Olympic Opening Ceremony?
Bang your heads for a musical lineup sure to go down in history as an Olympic Game changer.
If spectators thought the Opening Ceremony ’s musical lineup couldn’t get more exciting, think again.
Heavy metal music just made its epic Olympic debut at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris , and it’s plain to see why organizers chose French hard rock band Gojira to perform. The award-winning musicians are hailed as rock gods in the Olympics’ host country, drawing such an audible response from fans over the decades that they *literally* hold records for their loud sound.
The band performed from platforms off a building, fusing their sound Swiss opera singer Marina Viotti. The result was an iconic spectacle.

Who are Gojira?
The early days of Gojira — which loosely translates to “Godzilla”— began in 1993 with teenage French-American brothers Joe and Mario Duplantier jamming out in their garage in the Bayonne suburbs of southwestern France, Joe told Revolver Magazine in 2012. Joe, the band’s rhythm guitarist and vocalist, said he was first introduced to bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden at age 14 thanks to his cousins, and his immediate decision to form a band was “impulsive.”
“It had a strange effect on me like no other music,” he continued. “We’d do Metallica covers, but we weren’t good enough to do them right.”
Joe said Mario, five years his junior, went on to start his own rock band at 12, and they were “ten times better.” But the brothers, at ages 19 and 14, eventually joined forces to create the band that would become Gojira, and in 1996, they recruited then-19-year-old lead guitarist Christian Andreu. Bassist Jean-Michel Labadie joined two years later.
Over the decades, their heavier death- and thrash-metal sound evolved into a more spiritual and melodic metal style, often with lyrics supporting human and environmental rights.
The Rise of Gojira
Their early demos, plus their first two albums, Terra Incognita and The Link , in the early 2000s, gained Gojira immense popularity in the Basque country’s music scene. However, their third studio album, From Mars to Sirius (produced by American record label Prosthetic ) got them massive recognition in Europe. Singles “Ocean Planet” and “Flying Whales,” which highlighted marine conservation and environmental advocacy, helped Rolling Stone list From Mars to Sirius as one of the top 100 metal albums of all time.

“Gojira emerged in the early 2000s — a time dominated by black-metal purists and emo-metal crossover scenesters — with a guts-meets-brains combo of rock, thrash, and death metal,” the music outlet wrote.
Radio play got the attention of American death metal band Lamb of God, and they became some of Gojira’s first champions on the metal scene, according to Revolver . Metallica frontman James Hetfield also took a liking to their song “Flying Whales.” In 2009, Gojira joined both bands on tour in the U.S. and Canada, making an even bigger name for themselves on the American metal scene.
In 2012, touring with Metallica at the Stade de France , the country’s largest stadium, Gojira broke the record with 120 decibels for emitting the loudest sound at the arena, according to Le Parisien .
The Duplantier brothers already had strong ties in America from their mother’s side, and they kept one foot in France and another in New York City, where Gojira regularly records at Joe Duplantier’s Queens-based studio. In France, they record at Le Studio des Milans in their hometown of Ondres.
“Since I was a kid, I’ve been fascinated by the city, by New York in general,” Joe said in a 2013 interview with Decibel Magazine . “It’s like an explosion of energy, culture, and entertainment — there is a lot going on in New York, and so many different people… There is a lot going on, which is really good for me, for my spirit. I call Brooklyn home.”
No matter what you’re interested in, NBCU will have you covered during the 2024 Paris Olympics . Stay up to date with a comprehensive schedule of events , including where to watch, and medal count .
In New York, Gojira produced their sixth studio album, Magma , which earned them a 2017 Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Album. The album’s single, Silvera , was also nominated for Best Metal Performance. Their 2021 single, Amazonia — which helped raise funds for Indigenous people’s rights in Brazil — got them a third Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance.
Gojira has performed alongside some of metal’s biggest names, including Cannibal Corpse, Meshuggah, and Children of Bodom. Their music continues to top charts around the globe and has earned numerous awards and nominations in rock music, including those by Loudwire, Revolver, and the Heavy Music Awards.
It remains one of France’s biggest rock bands of all time.
About Gojira’s activism
As if being internationally renowned rock gods wasn’t enough, Gojira does tremendous work against inequality and injustice. In recent years, they’ve fought to protect the Amazonian rainforests, stop elephant slaughter, and promote awareness for climate change, among their numerous causes, as shown on the band’s website .
Joe Duplantier touched on the group’s activism when promoting Gojira's 2021 Billboard-topping album, Fortitude , in an interview with Guitar.com .
“Rock is the music of rebellion; it has all the components,” he said. “It’s got to have something that will make you think, something that will activate you. If it doesn’t, the words that come out, the music that comes out, it’s just a noise.”
Joe added he wanted to be “part of a solution” in this world “instead of being part of the problem.”
The band has fundraised for the fight against HIV/AIDS, Greenpeace, and sea conservation, among other causes. They continue to take their activism with them as they continue touring the U.S.A. in September 2024 with American band Korn, according to their website.

What is "AIN" in the Olympics? Why Russian and Belarusian athletes can't represent their countries
Updated on: July 27, 2024 / 9:07 AM EDT / CBS News
Now that the 2024 Olympics have kicked off in Paris, athletes from two countries will compete without a national title, flag or anthem — instead, they'll be referred to as "AIN."
Athletes from Russia, which has been banned from competing in the Olympics as a country since 2017 for the fourth time in a row, are competing as what's known as individual neutral athletes, or "AIN" from the French translation. They will be joined by athletes from Belarus, which is banned as a country for the first time. The two nations are banned over involvement in the ongoing war in Ukraine .
Previously, Russian athletes were permitted to compete under the Russian Olympic Committee, or "ROC," which last made its appearance during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. They were allowed to compete under the "ROC" after a series of scandals curtailed their access to the Games, but that has changed for the Paris Games.
What do ROC and AIN stand for?
"ROC" stands for "Russian Olympic Committee." As Russia has faced suspensions from Olympic competitions first because of a series of doping scandals and then over its invasion of Ukraine, Russian athletes have competed under various alternatives to their country's name.
At the last Summer Olympics, which were held in Tokyo, Russian athletes competed under "ROC" rather than under the Russian flag.
At the Paris Olympics, Russian and Belarusian athletes will compete as "Individual Neutral Athletes," referred to as AIN from the French term, Athlètes Individuels Neutres. There will be far fewer competitors from the two nations than in past Games, and all had to be invited and adhere to strict guidelines.
Why is Russia banned from the Olympics?
Olympic athletes from Russia have faced a series of scandals and challenges in recent years. While previous bans and suspensions had to do with doping scandals, Russia was most recently suspended by the International Olympic Committee for its invasion of Ukraine.
The scandal of Russian athletes taking illegal performance-enhancing drugs burst into public view in 2015 after a series of leaks and investigations. In November 2015, the entire Russian track and field team was suspended after an investigation by the World Anti-Doping Agency found what it called a "culture of cheating."
A 2016 report from the World Anti-Doping Agency identified more than 1,000 individuals linked to a Russian state-sponsored doping scheme between 2011 and 2014. Some of the individual athletes had won medals — including gold medals — in the 2014 Winter Olympics held in Sochi, Russia.
The report referred to the doping scheme as an "institutional conspiracy" involving Russia's secret service.
The International Olympic Committee banned Russia in 2017 because of the scheme, but it gave individual athletes the chance to apply for admission to compete as "Olympic Athletes from Russia."
While 168 Russians passed the vetting process to participate in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, many others were banned. Dozens filed appeals with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and Russia's desperate attempt to get 45 banned athletes into Pyeongchang failed just hours before the opening ceremony .
In 2019, the World Doping Agency voted to ban Russia from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 Beijing Winter Games over manipulated doping data. The ban not only ruled Russia out of the following Olympic cycle but also barred Russian government officials from attending major events. Russia also lost the right to host or even bid for tournaments.
In 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine, sparking new controversies about the country's role in peaceful international competition.
The IOC's Executive Board was unequivocal in its condemnation of the invasion, which it called a "blatant violation" of the Olympic Truce and the Olympic Charter.
On the one hand, the IOC said, protective measures had to be taken against inviting athletes from national committees whose governments were deciding who could or could not participate in competitions, which compromised the political neutrality of athletes. On the other, the IOC said it was determined not to discriminate against athletes on the basis of their passports, which would go against the IOC's "mission to unify the entire world in peaceful competition."
The IOC solved this "grave dilemma" by deciding athletes from Russia and Belarus could participate as individuals.
This also meant that no international sports events would be organized in Russia or Belarus; no flag, anthems or other national symbols would be displayed at international sports events; and no government or state officials would be invited to sports events.
"The Olympic Games cannot prevent wars and conflicts," the IOC said in 2023. "Nor can they address all the political and social challenges in our world. This is the realm of politics. But the Olympic Games can set an example for a world where everyone respects the same rules and one another."
In 2023, nearly 20 months into its war with Ukraine, the IOC suspended Russia with immediate effect for violating the Olympic Charter by incorporating sports councils in four regions in eastern Ukraine.
Russia appealed the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland, but it lost the case in February this year, AP reported. The suspension meant the ROC couldn't receive funding from the IOC, though it didn't affect the Russian athletes competing in the games as neutral athletes.
On its website , the IOC says that it reserves the right to decide whether athletes with Russian or Belarusian passports participate.
What's different about competing as AIN athletes?
According to IOC guidelines, "Qualified athletes with a Russian or Belarusian passport will be entered as, and compete as, Individual Neutral Athletes." Teams of athletes with a Russian or Belarusian passport will not be permitted to compete in the Paris Olympics unless they are all competing as individuals.
And, any individual athletes who actively support the war or who are contracted to the Russian or Belarusian military or national security agencies cannot compete, according to the IOC, and they must adhere to doping standards.
Under the terms of the suspension, no athlete or sports official from either Russia or Belarus will be allowed to participate in the Olympics under the name of Russia or Belarus. In addition, no national flags, colors, anthems or "other national symbols whatsoever" may be displayed, and no government or state officials may be accredited for any of the sporting events. And, since they are competing as individuals and not as representatives of their nations, they cannot participate in the Parade of Nations at the opening ceremonies.
According to the IOC, individual athletes have to be invited by the IOC and only a very limited number will qualify through the existing systems.
As of July 20 , the IOC said there were 15 individual athletes from Russia and 18 from Belarus among the thousands of athletes who have qualified from around the world. Only about 60 athletes from the two nations had been invited under the new, strict standards.
"The distinction between States and individuals is of paramount importance," Alexandra Xanthaki, UN special rapporteur for cultural rights, said in May 2023. "Human rights were established and adopted by all nations to protect individuals and groups against the abuse of power from States and against the tyranny of majorities. Punishing individuals solely based on their nationality for the heinous acts of leaders over which they have no control, would undermine this distinction. But banning States from sports events may be a legitimate measure."
When will Russia be allowed to participate in the Olympics again?
The sanctions against Russia reinforced at the Olympic Summit in December 2022 "remain firmly in place," the IOC said, giving no indications they would be lifted anytime soon.

Team USA wins first rowing gold in men's four since 1960
U.S. wins its first gold medal in women's team foil
Simone Biles leads U.S. women's gymnastics team to Olympic gold, kicking off Paris 'redemption tour'
Atlanta 1996, London 2012, Rio 2016 and now, Paris 2024.
The U.S. women's gymnastics team is golden once again.
After winning the team silver medal in Tokyo, Simone Biles led Team USA back to the top of the Olympic podium, winning a gold medal in Tuesday's team final.
Italy took silver and Brazil the bronze, winning its first Olympic team medal. It was the first Olympic team medal for the Italians since 1928.
Biles officially became the most decorated American gymnast in the history of the Olympic Games with eight medals.
She was previously tied with “Magnificent Seven” star Shannon Miller at seven Olympic medals.
Biles was already the most decorated gymnast in history from any country if you include world championship medals in the tally. She now has 38 combined world and Olympic medals.
Tuesday's gold extends a 32-year medal streak at the Olympics for the U.S. women, beginning at the 1992 Barcelona Games. It's their fourth team gold medal.
Biles clinched the gold with a gravity-defying routine on floor, tumbling to the music of Taylor Swift and performing two of her eponymous skills.
"We had the most fun I've ever had at a meet," Suni Lee said after the U.S. won gold. "It's super special because we all knew how much we wanted it. We put in the work and did everything that we needed to do."
Biles shared the team's pre-competition ritual, which involved "bumping music, loud."
"We were just having a good time while we were getting ready," Biles said. "And we all knew what the job was once we got in here."
The U.S. kicked off its night on the vault, where it built strong momentum heading into the uneven bars. Lee anchored the bars lineup with a gutsy routine that expertly juggled risk and reward, earning a 14.566.
A fall off the beam by Jordan Chiles sent a jolt of nerves through the U.S. team in the third rotation, but Lee got the team back on track with a confident exercise. Biles narrowly averted disaster on a side aerial, the easiest skill in her beam routine, but managed to stay on.
Team USA has several points of difficulty advantages, so Chiles' missed routine had little impact on its gold medal chances. She more than redeemed herself on floor, where she served up high-flying acrobatics and magnetic stage presence in equal measure, tumbling to Beyoncé.
Reigning Olympic floor champion Jade Carey performed just one routine, a Cheng on vault that earned a 14.800. She sat out floor in the final after a disastrous qualifying routine, when she appeared to get lost in the air on her double tuck, doing only a full tuck and rolling backward, out of bounds.
Carey said in a post on X that she “hasn’t been feeling the best” in Paris and hadn't eaten in several days before Sunday's qualifying.
Hezly Rivera, 16, was the team’s only newcomer and didn’t compete in Tuesday’s final. She will still get a medal for her contributions to the team in the qualifying round.
Heading into the Paris Olympics, the U.S. women weren't afraid to say it — they wanted that gold medal.
Biles called Paris a “redemption tour” for the Tokyo returners.
“I feel like we all have more to give and our Tokyo performances weren’t the best,” Biles said at the Olympic trials in Minneapolis . “We weren’t under the best circumstances, either, but I feel like we have a lot of weight on our shoulders to go out there and prove that we’re better athletes.”
Even Suni Lee, who came away from Tokyo with the all-around gold medal, was hungry to achieve Olympic glory with her teammates by her side.
“I think this time around, we’re so much more mature and know what we can do and what we can’t do,” Lee said.
Two Olympic all-around champions will go head to head in the all-around final for the first time. Biles and Lee contend for gold Thursday.
