    So the route to becoming a professor is broadly speaking: PhD > Postdoc #1 > Postdoc #2 > Lecturer > Prof with lecturer and prof being broken into sub-levels. Getting a postdoc position is perfectly doable. You might have to be flexible on where you live in the world depending on how picky you are about the specific subject of interest.
