The Case Study of Vanitas Manga  (Japanese: ヴァニタスの手記カルテ, Hepburn: Vanitasu no Karute) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Jun Mochizuki. It has been serialized in Square Enix’s shōnen manga magazine Monthly Gangan Joker since December 2015. In North America, the manga is published in English by Yen Press.

At the end of the 19th century. The capital city of France – Paris – is in turmoil following repeated attacks by vampires. However, the golden rule of their community is not to attack humans! A mysterious evil seems to be eating away at these immortal creatures… It is in this troubled period that Noah arrives in the capital. Born a bloodsucker, he follows the trail of the grimoire de Vanitas, a legendary artifact feared by all vampires. It is said that it allows its holder to interfere with what is most sacred to them: the true name, the very symbol of their life. Altering it can drive them mad, or even destroy them… Onboard the huge floating ship on which he has embarked, Noah meets Amelia. As he helps her recover from a breakdown, everything goes haywire: she loses her mind and reveals her vampire nature to the passengers! That’s when a mysterious assailant enters the scene, introducing himself as… Vanitas! In front of a stunned Noah, he draws the famous grimoire and soothes the young woman’s madness. So the artifact is not just a deadly weapon?

Main Characters

Vanitas is one of the main protagonists of The Case Study Of Vanitas. He presents himself as an “average human being” using the power of the Book of Vanitas to cure vampires of the Blue Moon curse. Vanitas was named after the vampire, Vanitas, from the original Blue Moon tale.

Noé Archivist is a young man who is on board the airship La Baleine accompanied by his cat Murr. He has been living in the forests of Averoigne for many years. He has his first flight in an airship when he helps a young woman, Amelia, who has just fainted because of her anemia.

Jeanne is a female vampire who supports her master Luca, who is her knight, wherever he may go. … She is also known as the executioner of Sire Ruthven, and her legend tells that she alone killed more than a thousand vampires who had joined the humans during the great war.

Lucius ‘Luca’ Oriflamme, better known as Grand Duke Oriflamme, is a young vampire noble and advisor to the queen.

The story is about Noé's notes about meeting and later killing Vanitas but I don't think it's going the way we think it will. Why, because "Vanitas" isn't his real name. He took that name after the blue moon vampire, it's her book. She also is dead but "Vanitas"'s brother is trying to bring her back and we know that "Vanitas" is against that idea because it won't be her returning. We also know that the compte de saint germain(the nameless vampire) is supposedly helping the little brother. We also know that "Vanitas" is a somewhat of a nobody in the vampire world, till he announced himself to the nobles no one really knew him, but they did know part of the the story of the real Vanitas I think Noé is going to kill that Vanitas

The Case Study of Vanitas

Rumors revolving around The Book of Vanitas, a clockwork grimoire of dubious reputation, draw Noé, a young vampire in search of a friend's salvation, to Paris. What awaits him in the City of Flowers, however, is not long hours treading the pavement or rifling through dusty bookshops in search of the tome. Instead, his quarry comes to him...in the arms of a man claiming to be a vampire doctor! Thrust into a conflict that threatens the peace between humans and vampires, will Noé cast in his lot with the curious and slightly unbalanced Vanitas and his quest to save vampirekind?

Oh where to begin. My simple review is: It was made for people who haven't read the manga. The story was lacking. In the best way, it was too soft. Vanitas' issues were downplayed. Especially during the ball and he was reduced to "Silly looking Vani wants to play doctor." It's supposed to be bread crumbs. A slow fall. Important things were dropped. Things in the catacombs were dropped. Foreshadowing is a key player here. Animation was good. It kept the pretty boy style and didn't rob Jeanne of her shape. I really have nothing to say about sound. Characters, characters, characters. Yes I love the characters but not as much here. Vanitas went from angry at him self to sad boi. Domi had more to her character. Her obsession with Jeanne was not simply to dance and make Noe upset. Olivier... I won't start on him. Characters had corners chisseled off. They were ironed out. They were watered down. It's disappointing. What saves this and gives it a better review? Animation and sound. But a note to everyone getting upset about the ending being given away in the beginning: It's a history. That's why episodes and chapters are called memiors. Adding on as RIPAnime suggests: I find the characters watered down because there wasn't enough time to explain the issues they have. Parts that could help were skipped. Vanitas has issues with his past and he has those issues today. Dominique isn't upset simply because of Noe not returning her feelings. She likes and cares for Jeanne genuinely, but the affection isn't there enough. Character development does happen later, but it seems like it will be harder without these starting pieces. While we don't get to the bottom of their past at the beginning, we haven't gotten far from the surface when we should be digging a hole.

this shit is fucking amazing. good job bones for doing the manga justice.

the case study of vanitas raw

Vampires in Paris, The City of Flowers, beware, something evil lurks, hunting for your true name. Child or elder, it matters not. Parade of Charlatan will twist you, make you a monster. You're own family will be your feast.   Your only salvation is the infamous clockwork grimoire, The Book of Vanitas or death. Noé Archiviste searches for the book, only to have it come to him via a charismatic, unhinged young man calling himself Vanitas, a vampire doctor. Whitty, bloody, and sexy (but not ecchi); it's quite the fun ride. As the series progresses we learn more about the characters' dark, blood splattered pasts all with beautiful art and comedy mixed in.  If you like this series, I recommend reading the manga of the same title to get deeper into these characters. The anime is nearly all canon, but there are a few things that are glossed over.   I rate it 16+. A child is beheaded right in front of their friend. Lots of blood and thoughts of suicide.

SynopsisThere once lived a vampire known as Vanitas, hated by his own kind for being born under a full blue moon, as most arise on the night of a crimson one. Afraid and alone, he created the Book of Vanitas, a cursed grimoire that would one day take his vengeance on all vampires; this is how the story goes, at least.

follows Noé Archiviste, a young man who is traveling aboard an airship in 19th-century Paris with one goal in mind: to find the Book of Vanitas. A sudden vampire attack leads him to meet the enigmatic Vanitas, a doctor who specializes in vampires and, much to Noé's surprise, an entirely ordinary human. The mysterious doctor has inherited both the name and the infamous text from the Vanitas of legend, using the grimoire to heal his patients. But behind his kind demeanor lies something a bit more sinister.

‘Unimaginable is difficult to imagine’: New dystopian ad sparks debate on CNN

A CNN panel discussion turned into a debate over the realities of abortion in GOP-led red states now and across the country if Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump wins the November election and if he implements Project 2025 policies. Lincoln Project strategist Stuart Stevens smacked down CNN senior political commentator Scott Jennings who attempted to mock the ad and its producers.

The Lincoln Project’s new ad, “State Line,” depicts a father in a dystopian America in the not-too-distant future under a Project 2025 abortion ban driving his daughter out of a red state to obtain medical services. A police officer pulls them over and starts to interrogate the daughter, having very personal and specific information about her pregnancy, her sister’s whereabouts, and the GPS coordinates of their destination “in one of those abortion states.”

“What are you, about eight weeks pregnant?” the officer says. “I see you’ve been spotting recently. You had any cramps, or nausea?”

ALSO READ: Rudy Giuliani finds a new low: platforming a Nazi “You been taking your prenatal vitamins?” he also asks.

As the interrogation heats up, the teenager says, “We have the right to travel.”

The police officer shakes his head and says, “Not anymore.”

The ad concedes with text that reads: “With Project 2025, a nationwide ban on abortion with out exception is enforced by anyone with a badge.”

CNN host Abby Phillips opened the discussion as two of the panelists were suppressing their laughter.

CNN’s Scott Jennings, a Karl Rove protege who has worked for President George W. Bush’s campaigns and in the Bush White House , began the commentary by mocking the ad and its producers.

“Well, I’m glad to see we have very serious people putting out very serious advertising,” snarked Jennings, who has also worked for Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell.

He then turned his attention to The Lincoln Project’s Stuart Stevens, asking: “You make this?”

“I didn’t make it but I’m with The Lincoln Project and I think it’s going to be a very effective ad,” Stevens replied.

As Jennings began to respond, Stevens calmly continued talking, saying: “You know, the problem with the unimaginable is, it’s difficult to imagine.”

“And what you have here are these laws that are being passed – this actually has happened,” Stevens told Jennings, who appeared to be bobbing up and down. “I mean, they did criminalize someone going out of state in Ohio.”

“When you get these states that ban abortion, you know, they are going to track all of this,” Stevens added, apparently referencing the police officer’s comments to the teenager in the ad. “When you make something criminal – you’re a woman, and you’re using an app to track periods that could become evidence against you in a trial. That is the world here. And one thing about it is we only banned abortions in states like Mississippi for poor people, because everybody I grew up with in Mississippi who had money and something, went to get an abortion, they would get an abortion. And that is still going to happen, and it is absolutely more impactful on those [in a] lower economic status.”

“And this is what has happened. And the idea that you just sort of say, ‘well, you know, it’s just policy,’ something that people thought was a constitutional right for almost two generations has been taken away. And I think it is about liberty, and it is about the heavy hand of government.”

Panelist Katie Frost, a former communications director for Alabama’s Roy Moore’s failed Senate bid, said the ad to her felt like “fan fiction.”

She also claimed that abortion is “the only issue that [Vice President Kamala] Harris and the Democrats think they can run on. Every single other issue, they’re absolutely going to get destroyed on.”

Harris is currently beating Trump by 3.5 percentage points according to the FiveThirtyEight polling average.

“This is excellent,” observed award-winning producer, author, and filmmaker Melissa Jo Peltier, commenting on the Lincoln Project ad. “The idea that women would not be able to travel freely throughout the country…that their personal health would be monitored…it’s beyond creepy. It’s barbaric. What comes next? Menstrual huts?”

Stories Chosen For You

Do you think vice president kamala harris should be the next president, 'threads the needle': ex-trump lawyer praises jack smith's 'crisply worded' re-indictment.

A former lawyer for Donald Trump would be "scratching his head" if the MAGA leader's current lawyers were surprised by Jack Smith's trimmed-down superseding indictment Tuesday against the former president.

Ty Cobb spoke with Erin Burnett on CNN's "OutFront" on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the case, telling the anchor he believes the slimmed-down case makes it clear that Trump's acts were personal, rather than official acts.

"This is a very forceful document ," he said. "It's pared down. Every sentence is crisply worded. It's a tight narrative. You can't read this and not understand the crimes that Trump actually committed."

"I think it does," said Cobb, noting that some of Smith's editing was "spot on" that emphasized the "private nature of many of these acts."

He pointed to the private funding of a speech before the Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6, as well as Mike Pence's "ceremonial role" in certifying the election and the non-governmental roles of the co-conspirators who were also acting in a "private capacity."

"I think this threads the needle. If I'm Trump's lawyers and I'm surprised I'm scratching my head at that because this was the reasonable approach to take," he said.

Cobb said it made more sense to put forth a "forceful case like this" rather than go through a slew of hearings before Judge Tanya Chutkin and have her edit the indictment.

When asked if the case would proceed quickly or slowly, Cobb said it would likely proceed slowly. Chutkin will still have a hearing on the whittled-down indictment, he noted.

To boot, Cobb believes an appeal is still available, though the Supreme Court may not take it.

"This hasn't been on course to go before the election for months," he said. "That always was never going to happen."

Cobb said that while the 78-year-old Trump won't likely receive a 55-year sentence, he could see six to nine "once convicted."

Even so, Cobb doubted that Trump would take the case seriously until the "final gavel" came down.

One simple question may determine whether Mike Pence can help Jack Smith: Legal analyst

When special counsel Jack Smith filed a superseding indictment against former President Donald Trump in the federal election interference case, he excluded all sorts of evidence that could run afoul of the Supreme Court's immunity decision. But he chose to keep in former Vice President Mike Pence — using a bit of clever argument.

Whether this will work hinges on a key question, CNN legal analyst Jennifer Rodgers told anchor Phil Mattingly.

"It appears that what Smith is trying to do here is to take a lot and put it outside the orbit of the office of the presidency," said Mattingly. "The special counsel is arguing also that the former vice president, his vice president, Mike Pence, that his role in certifying the election results was ceremonial, not part of his duties as vice president. You think that's going to work?"

"Yeah. That's the big question to me is the thing that's closest to the line," said Rodgers. "Was he wearing his hat of vice president or was he wearing the hat of the president of the Senate when this pressure campaign was going on? And that's where I think Jack Smith may have the most trouble on appeal and even perhaps initially with Judge [Tanya ]Chutkan, in where that conduct falls."

In all other regards, she continued, "I think they've done a good job of kind of laying out the official versus unofficial, but I agree ... this really is the thing where I think they might have the most trouble, and we're at the starting line. So, Judge Chutkan will have the first crack after Donald Trump and his lawyers move to dismiss it, this indictment, at saying whether this new superseding indictment passes muster or not, they may have to go back to the drawing board on that very issue that you point out."

"But we're at the starting line and we'll see now again what happens as soon as this is under consideration by the court," she added.

Republican's exit a 'case study in what’s broken in national politics': columnist

Former U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) was hired last week by the software company Palantir Technologies, after departing Congress earlier this year.

In an op-ed published by The Washington Post Tuesday, columnist David Ignatius, who recently interviewed the former GOP lawmaker, explains why Gallagher's exit is "a case study in what’s broken in national politics — and maybe how to fix it."

Although "very conservative," Ignatius notes that Gallagher "fears that conservative values aren’t the defining point for Republicans any longer."

He told the columnist: "How conservative you are can’t be measured by loyalty to the party or the president."

Ignatius notes that Gallagher left Congress following "a cruel hoax" claiming that the ex-congressman "had been shot in the face and that his wife and two young daughters" were being held hostage in December of last year.

That incident "proved to be a breaking point" for the former Wisconsin lawmaker, Ignatius emphasizes.

Gallagher really knew it was time for him to go when he didn't vote for the GOP-led impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

"Gallagher’s exit says that "Congress in the age of Trump is becoming a toxic echo chamber. Members and their families are targets of extremist rage," Ignatius writes.

However, "The arc of Gallagher’s career illustrates several things that matter in this election year," the columnist continues . "First, despite all the bickering, bipartisanship is still possible. Gallagher led a select panel on China that developed nearly 150 bipartisan recommendations for legislation helping the United States to compete more effectively with Beijing."

Gallagher also understands that infighting and insulting gets Congress nowhere.

"We’ve turned Congress into a ‘green room’ for Fox News and MSNBC , instead of being the key institution of government," he told Ignatious. "Being a bomb-thrower on TV or crapping on my colleagues has never interested me."

Ignatius emphasized, "Thinking about Gallagher reminds me that politics is a character test — not just of the candidates but of the system itself. If good people leave Congress or don’t run for office at all, we’ll get legislators who are coarser and more extreme — creatures of this broken process."
